BNSF Mainline Power

Operating over 32,500 route miles of track, BNSF Railway connects 28 states and 3 Canadian provinces, North America’s second largest Class 1 rail system.  The company formed through the merger of the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe railroads in 1993, forging together a 160 year legacy. In the modern era, BNSF continues to innovate and play a vital economic role in the nation’s supply chain. In 2015, the railway hauled 10.2 million carloads of freight.

Our BNSF Mainline Power set recreates some typical motive power on the line, including General Electric and EMD six-axle units.

The GE Dash 9-44CW debuted in 1993, beginning a new era of high horsepower technology. The locomotive would become a mainstay of the BNSF fleet, with 1,697 units purchased.

Similar to the Dash 9, the AC4400CW model is equipped with alternating current  traction motors, designed to maximize tractive effort at low speeds. These provided added performance for heavy unit trains, carrying bulk commodities such as coal or grain.

To meet Federal goals of reducing in carbon emissions, the EPA set three stage of new requirements for locomotives.  GE developed the ES44DC to meet Tier 2 requirements and replace the Dash 9.

Further improvements in traction control produced the ES44C4, which reduced the number of powered axles from four to six, yet produced similar tractive effort at reduced cost.

Our set also includes two SD60M models — the first of the modern generation from EMD.

UP Mainline Power: AC45CCTE, Chicago & Northwestern models added

Dekosoft Trains adds two new bonus locomotive models for the Union Pacific Mainline Power set: AC45CCTE 7415 and AC44CW 6722, a patched Chicago & Northwestern unit.

AC45CCTE UP #7415
Union Pacific 7415 approaches San Luis Obispo with a mixed consist train. (Route: Cuesta Grade)

The next generation of diesel technology from General Electric produced the GEVO series. The AC45CCTE introduces enhancements to both tractive effort and emissions compliance, as regulated under Tier 3 emissions standards. Our model features UP detailing, including cab roof antenna farm and realistic weathering. Our model depicts a weathered flag unit commonly found throughout the present-day UP system.

Also included is AC44CW, one of the last ordered units on the Chicago and Northwestern. Though heavily weathered, this machine was still rostered in 2015 and carries the legacy yellow and green lightning paint scheme.

The models are free for customers of the UP Mainline Power set, exclusively available at dekosoft.com.

Union Pacific Mainline Power

31 October 2016: Version 2.0 released. New SD70M locomotives and freight car set expanded, with additional improvements to previous models.

Dekosoft Trains presents modern era locomotives in Union Pacific Mainline Power for Open Rails. This set includes General Electric AC44CW, AC45CCTE and EMD’s SD60M and SD70M models with prototypical details and high resolution textures, custom sounds and 3D cab views.

General Electric introduced the AC4400CW (UP class CW44AC) and the similar Dash 9-44CW in 1993. These advanced technology locomotives saw great success in deployment Class 1 railroad across the US. Both models are powered by the 4,400 horsepower 7FDL16 prime mover and ride on six-axle high adhesion trucks. In contrast to the Dash-9, the AC units use alternating current traction motors instead of direct current to provide improved performance at low speeds and electronic controller technology for maximum pulling power in adverse conditions.

Union Pacific rostered 1,338 AC4400CWs, including patched units acquired from Southern Pacific and Chicago and Northwestern mergers. Later models were updated with Computerized Traction Software and designated AC4400CW-CTE. This unique UP safety modification limits the amount of horsepower delivered when the units are in helper service in the middle or at the rear of a train.

The EMD SD60M evolved from General Motors’ long history of producing high horsepower road units. In 1984 EMD introduced its 60 series to extend and replace fleets of six-axle SD’s, and succeed its highly popular SD40-2. Facing strong competition from General Electric, the EMD models raised performance through introduction of the 710G power plant yielding 3,800 horsepower. Union Pacific purchased 366 SD60Ms with three window and two window variations.

EMD’s SD70M carried forward the advances of the SD60 series with a 16-cylinder, 4,000 horsepower prime mover, standard safety cab, modular electronics and the introduction of the HTCR self-steering truck to provide improved traction and lessen wear on rails. After 2000, larger flared radiators were added to improve cooling efficiency and meet EPA Tier 1 requirements. Union Pacific recieved over 1,500 units in multiple orders. Our model features new sounds, 3-d cabview and flared and non-flared versions with high poly details and 2k resolution textures.

Preview: Union Pacific Mainline Power

Dekosoft Trains announces its next major release: Union Pacific Mainline Power. The set of rolling stock for Open Rails Train Simulator will include modern 6-axle locomotives and freight cars. Here’s a sneak peek at the General Electric AC4400CW with 3d cab views and sounds, estimated for summer 2015 release.

GE first launched the AC4400CW in 1993 as a successor to the Dash 9-44CW series to tackle heavy freight service. The locomotive features 4,400 horsepower and uses alternating current traction motors, which offer better pulling power at low speeds than its predecessor. The locomotive achieved great success — a total of 2,598 units were produced, the Union Pacific Railroad claiming the highest ownership (many absorbed through mergers of the Chicago and Northwestern and Southern Pacific).
